Jasmine Chia is a junior studying Government and Religion in Leverett House. Her history with activism is long and diverse: growing up in Thailand during one of the most political periods of the Kingdom’s history, she began as a political activist for the Thai Democrat Party and led some of the protests during the 2014 political crisis, especially on the subject of tyranny of the majority, and the failed government agricultural subsidies. However, as the military coup has become more repressive to student activists, she has diverted this energy into actively campaigning and writing articles about both social and political issues in Thailand. She has written articles on gender inequality covering the sex industry, the gendered nature of the tourism industry and was invited to speak at the FCCT on the topic of gender inequality.
