Dr. Sebunruang obtained her BA in Science and her MA degree in Science and Agriculture from Kasetsart University in 1987. In 1994, she received a scholarship from the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) to pursue her Doctor of Philosophy in Plant Breeding at the University of the Philippines (Los Banos). Currently, Dr. Sebunruang is the project leader for the cotton breeding program of the Department of Agriculture and Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives. Since 1989, she is a Senior Cotton Breeder with main expertise in high yield, fibre quality and insect pest resistance. In 2001, Dr. Sebunruang has developed “Tak Fa 2”, the first long staple natural cotton variety of Thailand and was awarded the first prize for distinguished research for “Tak Fa 2” cotton from Kasetsart University. In 2013, Kasetsart University awarded Dr. Sebunruang the prize for distinguished research for “Tak Fa 84–4”, a new jassid tolerant cotton variety. In 2015, her research for “Tak Fa 86–5”, Green Staple Cotton Cultivar, was also awarded as the best research from Kasetsart University. Farmers from many provinces in Thailand adopt Dr. Sebunruang’s cultivars for cultivation and raw material for handmade fabrics.
