Ms. Deetes is Director at Hill Area Development Foundation (HADF), a non-profit organization established in 1985. The organization focuses on the development of the quality of life of ethnic minority people living in the mountains of Chiang Rai province. It is also concerned with supporting the hill tribe peoples’ struggle to conserve their environment, particularly the watershed of Mae Chan and Mae Salong basin. She obtained her BA in Sociology and Anthropology at Chulalongkorn University. Passionate and committed to work with the hill tribes in Thailand, she attended a three years’ program sponsored by Thammasat University in the hills to help Thai marginalized communities and learned the tribes’ languages. Ms. Deetes also worked in the Northwest with the Adult Education and the Non-Formal Education Departments of the Ministry of Education. Currently, with HADF, she has conducted trainings to promote integration of gender perspective in community development work. HADF works with 35 villages in Mae Chan District and Mae Salong District in Chiang Rai province.
